With each product in the webshop you will find the material composition or an estimate of this, but what does this actually say? There are a lot of different materials and compositions in this blog I will name a number of common materials and the properties that go with them.
Cotton
Cotton is an age-old material that most people will know, it is a hydrophilic natural fiber. This means that it absorbs moisture well and lets air through. It is a strong material and is easy to wash, which promotes durability, a garment made of cotton stays beautiful for years! Cotton can be found in a supple shirt fabric or in a sturdy weave such as denim.
Polyester
Polyester is a mega strong synthetic fiber, which has acquired a negative image over the years. This does not always have to be justified. Yes, it is a synthetic fiber, but it is also a strong material, which is very shape and colorfast. This is why you see this material in the most beautiful colors and prints, which are still beautiful in color even after many years of wearing. It is easy to wash and is virtually wrinkle-free. Polyester is also often added to cotton for more wear resistance. As far as I am concerned, these are certainly some nice properties!
Viscose
Made of wood chips and is also called artificial silk because of its soft and shiny properties. It has a luxurious look, but is also very comfortable and is therefore often used in blouses, dresses, skirts, etc., it falls very smoothly and retains color well. With viscose, make sure that the garment is washed at a maximum of 30 degrees, preferably on a wool/silk setting to retain the properties as well as possible.
Side
One of the most luxurious materials available, spun from threads of the cocoon made by the silk caterpillar. The material is very fine and supple, which makes it fit nicely around your body. This makes it very suitable for blouses and dresses, for example. Due to the fine properties of silk, it is important to be extra careful with these items, for example by washing them on the silk setting or by hand.
(Shear) wool
Wool is a common material in vintage products, you will find this in sweaters, blazers/suits, coats etc. And is obtained by shearing different animals such as sheep, goats and alpacas. The most common variant comes from the sheep. Virgin wool is the purest variant of wool, this is known that it is sheared from a healthy and living sheep. These fibers have also not been used in a process before. Regular wool can therefore contain recycled fibers where virgin wool is completely pure. A very important property of wool is the temperature regulation, which makes it very suitable for nice warm winter sweaters.
Polyamide
Polyamide is similar to polyester and is therefore often added to other materials. It is an extremely strong material that is wear-resistant, colourfast and wrinkle-free (so it does not need to be ironed). It is a synthetic material but due to the great strength of the fibres, a material that lasts for years and is also very suitable for recycling. Due to the properties mentioned above, polyamide is also very suitable for blouses with colourful prints, but also as jackets and skirts. Very multifunctional.
Learn
In the webshop, we are talking about genuine leather when it comes to leather. This material is extremely durable and lasts for years, and it actually only becomes more beautiful with age. Because leather is a very broad description, we state in the description whether it is about supple or firm leather. The difference can already be seen here, supple leather falls around the body, where firm leather has a function to retain the original shape. Leather is easy to dye, so you can find it in the most beautiful colours.
The wide range of materials can sometimes be a bit overwhelming, but with the above descriptions you will hopefully have gained some more knowledge and will be able to make an even better choice for your new items.
